Here are the rules for playing at the Musical Genie Tourney of Champions - Musical Chairs Style.
This tourney is open to those who have been invited to play at the Musical Genie Tournament of Champions. To qualify for an invitation for this event, you need to do well at one of the Musical Chairs or any of the Summon the Genie events. At Musical Chairs, you need to win all three games or be among the top 4 highest scoring players of the week. Each Summon the Genie event will provide 4 players each week (those who reach the finals). You can also qualify if you do well at spur tourneys hosted by the Summon the Genie and Musical Chairs host families.
You must be on the list of invited players in order to play at the Musical Genie Tournament of Champions. Also check Musical Chairs' own list of invited players see if you have been invited. If you are invited to play, you can just show up at the scheduled Musical Genie event. If you would like a reminder to be e-mailed to you just before the event, be sure to provide your e-mail address.
If there are not enough players to fill all the tables, the tables will be filled by substitutes.
In Musical Chair format, each player who shows up will be entered as a single. In Regular Format, each player can choose a partner from the invitation list. When you arrive to the TOC room, please check with the host to make sure that you are confirmed. Once you have been confirmed, please sit down at a table that has been opened which does not have 4 players. If all opened table are full, then open the next table.
Please note that we do not confirm any player who are not on the invitation list. If you have received a TOC invite e-mail and have not been confirmed, please double check to make sure that your TOC invite e-mail is from a Musical Genie host. If it is a Musical Genie invite, please notify a Musical Genie host. Keep in mind that there are other groups that sends TOC invite e-mails on a monthly basis none of which are good for Musical Genie TOC.
There will be two rounds at the Musical Chairs Tournament of Champions. The first round is the qualifier round and the second round is the final round. Four players from the qualifier round will qualify to play in the final round.
Each round is designed to be a quick, fun, easy to play event and is designed to last no more than 60 minutes. The first player called will be table host. All games will be played at that table between those players. Exactly three games will be played by each player each round. The players will be seated as follows (or a similar arrangement)
Scoring will be as follows: the winners of each game will be awarded 10 points for the win, plus the difference of that game. The player earns a zero for each game that is lost. For example:
The Final Round consists of the players who earn one of the four highest scores and are still in the lobby. All substitutes (that is anyone who did not get invited) will not qualify to play in the final round. If there is a tie, the tournament host will determine how the tie will be broken - the tie is broken by analyzing the relative scores of the players who tied for the fourth place in the qualifying round. Here is the established tie-breaker rules.
The TOC ribbons will be awarded to the players who earned the two highest scores during the final round. The TOC ribbons are valid for 30 days. The other two players will earn ribbons. The ribbons are valid for 48 hours (or as defined by Mystic Island management.)
Those who wins the TOC ribbons will be listed on our Musical Genie TOC Winners web page. Everyone who plays in the final round will be invited to play at the next Musical Genie Tourney of Champions.
The table results are automatically posted to the lobby when either side reaches at least eight points. As long as the final score is posted to the lobby, there is no need to post the full result of the game. However, if the score does not appear in the lobby, it is the table host's responsibility to make sure that the the results of each game is posted in the lobby. Also if by any chance actual final score is different than what is posted in the lobby, be sure that the tournament host knows that the score you posted is correct. This may happen in case of a crash and the game cannot be resumed from the time of the crash. Also, the table host must verify with the tournament host at the end of the third game to make sure tournament host has the scores from all three games.
Standard Euchre rules apply. This tourney is supposed to be fun. People who find it necessary to cheat, lie, bend the rules, or be difficult are NOT fun and as such, they should find a different place to spend their Monday evenings. If a disagreement does arise, please make every effort to reach a quick and fair settlement between the partners at the table. If the situation is unresolvable, the Tourney Host can be called to the table to make a ruling. Please note: the Tourney Host and all of the Tourney Helpers are kind, gentle, caring individuals. All of us are running this event for FUN. Arguments are NOT fun. As such, the Tourney Host's rulings will be quick and FINAL. If you don't like the results, set up your own tourney!
Note that in Musical Chairs, it is not considered offensive if a player decides to call a loner when that player's team has 8 or 9 points. Winning that extra two points counts!
Please be patient for the player who crashed to return to the game. Normally the crashed player can return within seven minutes. If host crashes, the host should return and restart the game from where everyone left off. If the crashed player cannot return within seven minutes, then the game is completed with a sub.
